The boys’ and girls’ tennis teams finishing the season on fire. As of March 25, both teams are 12-1 and on a 10 game winning streak.

The teams each notched a key win versus rival East Lake on February 17. The boys and girls both won 5-2.

“It was a great win because it got us going early in the season and gave us confidence,” senior Alan Wrassman said.

Wrassman and senior Captain Julia Teytelbaum are the only seniors on both teams combined.

“Since I am the only senior on the girls’ team and the captain, I have helped oversee everything and help out the younger players,” Teytelbaum said.

Both teams have underclassmen among the top two players. Teytelbaum is the number one player on the girls’ team, followed by sophomore Sam Azadian at number two. Freshman David Teytelbaum is the number one player on the boys’ team, and sophomore Nathan Lord is number two.

“David Teytelbaum has been a nice surprise player on the team. He has come in as a freshman and become the number one player. He and Nathan Lord have been great for us so far this year,” Wrassman said.

Both teams are finishing the regular season strong, but they will most likely have to defeat tennis powerhouse St. Pete in order to advance in the playoffs. They won the District last year and are undefeated so far this season. They handed the Canes their only loss this year on February 18; the boys lost 5-2 and the girls lost 7-0.

The teams still have a key match remaining versus Seminole on April 6, which is also senior night. Then the Canes will look to continue their hot streak into the playoffs when Districts begin on April 12.
