Raider Football: Saturday Night, Under the Lights

Port Richmond Raiders (1-4) vs. Susan Wagner Falcons (3-2)

After an embarrassing 41-15 loss to the Tottenville Pirates, the Raiders look forward to playing their second Staten Island team of the season, the Susan Wagner Falcons. Wagner is a team on the uprising, last season they were only a few wins away to the championship, but there Cinderella Story was cut short leading them back to drawing board and getting prepared for the next season.

Now, Wagner has a much better team than last year. The final scores of both of Wagner’s two losses are 22-20 against Dewitt Clinton and 27-20 to Sheepshead Bay, proving that this team stays in the game even if losing. As for Port Richmond, they seem to be missing that big play guy like Torian Phillips or Zamel Johnson. All of Port Richmond’s losses were ugly, whether it being shut out or blown out, the Raiders have been through it all and are stuck in a huge hole. With there backs up against the wall, they will head into Tottenville High School to play under the lights against Susan Wagner High School in a must win situation.

Wagner has an above average offense to say the least, having several big play material football players. Their senior quarterback Jordan Rodriguez has a rating of 101.43 and has 3 passing touchdowns along with 5 rushing touchdowns off of 57 carries and 330 yards. Both of Rodriguez’s main targets when throwing are (Junior) William Echevarra) and (Senior) Michael Ellam have a combined a total of 20 receptions, 477 receiving yards, the 2 receiving touchdowns are recorded by Ellam and Ellam also has 87 rushing yards on 8 carries. Arguably the biggest playmaker on this team is (Junior) Running Back Trevor Ellam who has 429 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns off of 7 carries and even has 6 receptions with 67 receiving yards. The Wagner offense is not something to look over, the Port Richmond defense better wake up or else, they may be in for another 30 points given up.

The Port Richmond offense is nothing like last years. They are missing that big play guy and are being forced to run a spread offense, something they do not like doing. (Junior) Mark Clark who in the beginning of the season was having a great year got a leg injury against Fort Hamilton 2 weeks ago and it doesn’t look like he’ll playing for the second straight week. (Senior) Robert Schroeder who is the playmaker on this offense has 197 rushing yards on 27 carries and 2 touchdowns, along with 4 receptions 1 receiving touchdown and 18 receiving yards. The senior quarterback Jonathan Hernandez has had a struggling season so far, completeing only 44% of his passes, only throwing for 255 yards on 45 attempts, throwing 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s leading to a quarterback rating of a mere 59.03. His “go-to” receiver, Quadir Johnson has only 9 receptions and 132 receiving yards.

Key stat- Average Points Per Game: Port Richmond-14 Susan Wagner-28.8
