Unlike most players, Ryan has played football before Port Richmond. He is coming into his 9th year playing this full contact sport and he aims to make this his best year yet. If Ryan can have his best year, and start every game this season at full health, it could be a huge relief for Vesce, who is a little thin at the center position. Last year Bird was the backup center blocked by the shadow of Senior Phillip Terra. Bird's time to shine is now, let's see if he can make the most of it.
Bird also has a legacy to continue. His brother Brendan Ryan was also a very good player for Port Richmond, starting at defensive end, and offensive tackle positions. Brendan Ryan also had a nickname, 'Stork'. Bird being baby brother, received the nickname of 'Bird' his freshman year and has been referred by that nickname by teammates ever since. Nathaniel Ryan wants to prove he's just as good if not better than his bro and should develop from a puny Bird to an almighty Stork!
Big things are needed at the offensive line position. Ryan has the potential to be a force not only on offense, but also on defense. The defensive line for Port Richmond is not set, and probably won't be set until the end of football camp. Expect to see Nathaniel 'Bird' Ryan to rotate at defensive tackle and end along with an everyday start at center.
