JV Raiders season could end on high note
The JV Raiders baseball team was hoping McKee/Staten Island Tech would lose to New Dorp on their game on Thursday. If Tech were to lose Port Richmond would still have a shot in obtaining a playoff birth. Port Richmond's game against the 6-4-1 Susan Wagner Falcons could be meaningful then. Tech did beat the 2-9 New Dorp Centrals, with a score of 9-2, guaranteeing an end to the Raiders season earlier than hoped by Manager Seth Meyerson and his fellow players. The Raiders came close though with a 4-7 record, but just missed a playoff birth. That is how it's been all year for this team. Scores have been tight all year for the Raiders. Not one game was an easy win for Meyerson.
The Raiders struggled all year to maintain the lead in the later parts of the game. Here are a few scores of there games.
According to the scores of the game, the Raiders this season could only hang on, but could not deliver late in the game or late in the season. But Port Richmond lost one of there games to Wagner 8-6 as shown on the chart. So the Raiders have a score to settle.
Chris Jarmus will take the hill ranked among the top leaders in strikeouts in the PSAL. He's a southpaw K-King in my opinion. To win this game, Jarmus was quoted stating "We need to not make errors". Jesse Aroll, an outfielder on the Raiders stated that the Raiders fall apart at the end and basically give up at the end of games. The numbers don't lie, the Raiders had games losing of 3 or less runs in 4 different games. The key guy for the Raiders, hitting wise was John Revilla according to Chris Jarmus but he recently has been moved up to Varsity so he will not be playing in this game tomorrow for the Raiders. John 'Superman' Revilla was indeed the slugger on the team, starting at Catcher and switching up at First Base.
A reason why the Raiders lost close games could be that they couldn't pull it together as a team in the end of games. Their was no real leader for the Raiders and it's very hurtful to a Manager and his coaches. This could have been a reason why Coach Jessup quit coaching the baseball team suddenly in the past week. One last game for the Raiders, will they win? There is no longer any pressure for the Raiders, hopefully the game can and season can come to a close with smiles on the faces of the JV baseball players. A championship is what they wanted, they had the potential to be good, the team competed with the best. They just couldn't win. The Raiders and its fans hope to see a victory at Port Richmond Field tomorrow.
