Ted Larsen, who graduated from Palm Harbor University in 2006, was selected by the New England Patriots with their compensatory pick in the sixth round of Saturday's NFL draft.
Larsen played for North Carolina State the past four seasons. He initially started out as a defensive lineman before making the switch to center the past two seasons. In 2009, he led the team with 89 knockdowns and was an ACC-second team selection.
He joins three other locals, Dexter McCluster (Largo/Ole Miss), Javier Arenas (Robinson/Alabama) and Riley Cooper (CC Catholic/Florida), who were taken in the NFL draft. McCluster and Arenas were each selected in the second round by the Chiefs. Cooper was the Eagles' fifth-round pick.
Two more Pinellas County standouts, Terrell Skinner (Boca Ciega/Maryland) and A.J. Trump (CC Catholic/Miami) signed as free agents. Skinner agreed to terms with the Vikings and Trump decided to go to the Steelers.
