Raider Football Profiles: Juan Marrero

The best offensive line in the PSAL consisted of five seniors including two offensive guards named, Richard Barisciano and Derek Ramos. This means two guard positions are open on Head Coach Lou Vesce's offensive line. This means players have a chance to step up and claim their spot on the football team. A player working hard for one of those open guard positions is junior Juan Marrero.

Juan Marrero started his football career at Port Richmond, starting his sophomore year on junior varsity and now looking to start his senior year with big boys of varsity. This year for the Raiders he was a back up guard and linebacker and now has a chance to possibly start both ways. You can see Juan wearing number 53 this year and you won't be able to miss him. He's the shortest lineman the Raiders have. Don't let height fool you though. He's well built and has only gotten stronger this off-season.

Juan will be battling against sophmore Veron Jajaga for the starting guard position and linebacker position. This year you will probably see either or start at guard and linebacker. The other guard position will most likely go to junior John Hines. When asked about how he felt about the quarterback position Marrero responded with "It doesn't matter who's at QB, we have to block for him. The common mind of any offensive line player, the offensive line makes the quarterback perform at his best by blocking for him and making him comfortable in the pocket."

Team chemistry is important, that's why having close friends on a football team is a huge boost. It's even better when three of your starting offensive lineman, are close friends. Marrero has become great friends with fellow juniors and teammates, Nathaniel Ryan and Anthony Ennab. If those three can be clicking just like their friendship, Port Richmond's offensive line is going to be just as dominant as last years.

Juan Marrero is one of the most underrated players on Varsity. He goes out on the field and does his thing, and plays football. He loves the game and this year we'll learn to love him and maybe this year, their will be a big story about Juan Marrero.
