With a record of 8 wins, 4 losses as of March 23, the Canes’ baseball team begins their first season in the 6A district. Led by senior captains Kenny Kennan, Max Cameron, and Kyle Griffith, the Canes’ are scheduled to face new opponents in 6A including St. Petersburg High, Sarasota High, Sarasota-Riverview High, and North Port High. Still, the Canes will match up against their biggest rival: East Lake.

Senior Max Cameron said, “We really want to make a big impact our first year in this district. If we stay focused and work hard, we can have a lot of continued success this season.”

Under new coaching, the Canes are led by Coach Jim Felce. Senior Andrew Goot said, “Coach Felce is perfect for the program and he hopes to build a winning program here.”

With a roster of many underclassmen and juniors, the Canes should have strength for years to come. “We have a young team full of juniors but we should have lots of success in a new district” said Goot.

Team strengths include strong hitting and closing pitchers to hold onto small leads or lead to the Canes to a victory late in the game.  The Canes look to these highpoints to carry them through a winning season.
