WHITE PLAINS — If Conner Davis was having any trouble fitting in at his new school, he's in good now.
The Stamford, Conn., transfer won the favor of his teammates with a bases-clearing double in White Plains' 6-5 victory over Keio on Saturday. The bases-loaded bash to left-center in the fifth inning tied the score.
"The intensity was really picking up that inning," the junior said. "I just felt like trying to drive it to right field and react on an inside pitch. I got one right down the middle and turned on it."
The previous pitch had been a little too inside. It might have hit him, had he not flinched backward. Pitcher Kento Suga had already hit two men in the inning.
Tigers coach Marcel Galligani chided him to keep the lineup cycling. In other words, next time turn your shoulder and grit your teeth.
Davis hammered the next pitch, turning a 5-2 deficit into a 5-5 tie. In White Plains' second game, the new arrival validated Galligani's faith in batting him cleanup.
Mike Quirindongo's sacrifice fly scored the winning run.
