All County Basketball

HoopsPrell

This could be one of the youngest first team all-county selections:

Let's meet this year's boys all county basketball team:

Tenafly- Sophomore Chris Orozco and his coach Joe Finizio.

Chris was the most dynamic impact player of 2010. Tenafly made a remarkable turnaround with a 20-5 team record from 4-14 in 2009 and a league title.

As a sophomore, Chris scored 574pts 23ppg and his 1000 2 year career points. Chris shot a sizzling 87% from the foul line 259 out of 297- 8.1 rebounds ppg and 5.4assists pg. The fun part is we can watch him for 2 more years! From Tenafly Chris Orozco

Don Bosco Junior Vaughn Gray and his coach Kevin Diverio

As a junior- Vaughn was the highest rated player by the coaches in the "old NNJIL- or new state conference"

This is a tremendous honor in itself because of the level of competition night in and night out. At 6'5 Vaughn excels in the open court with his size and quickness. He averaged 21.4ppg 5.1 assists and 6.3 rebounds.

A three year varsity player and repeat first team all county selection.

St Mary-Rutherford Kyle Dadika and his coach Matt Stone-

Kyle is a junior forward and averaged 16ppg 13 rbpg and scored in double figures 25 out of 26 games this season.

His inside presence and ability to score on the perimeter led the Gaels to the BCSL National Division Title.

"Kyle was a tremendous presence on offense and defense throughout the year. He is an honor roll student and makes everyone around him better!"- Coach Stone

Old Tappan Junior Shane McLaughlin and his coach Dennis Rossi

Simply put, Shane McLaughlin is the best point guard in Bergen County. He led Old Tappan to a share of the NBIL League Title with Team of the Year Paramus Catholic and a Group 3 State Sectional Title. He was the MVP of the Jack Reilly Holiday Tournament and battled back from a mid-season foot injury. Shane average 16.7 ppg and many times throughout the season scored the most crucial points of a game. He committed less than 3 turnovers a game.

Bergen Catholic Junior Mark Richards and his coach Joe Dinisio-

Mark was instrumental in helping Bergen Catholic compete in this very tough season and reaching the finals of this year's Jamboree- as the 7th seed. "Mark often played his best games in the biggest environments and always was given the toughest defensive assignments"- Coach Dinisio

Some of his highlighted games were against Paramus Catholic-Teaneck-Kennedy and St Joe's-

At 6'4 Mark can score in the paint and has a soft mid-range jumpshot- he averaged 15.1ppg

With this crew of underclassmen coming back next year, we should sit back and enjoy their efforts!

And now our senior first team all county selections:

Elmwood Park Ryan Belisle and his coach Pat Gabriel

During Ryan's four years as a varsity basketball starter he has led Elmwood Park to 4 consecutive BPSL King- Division titles- 4 consecutive Jamboree appearances Championships- and their first ever Jamboree Quarterfinal appearance. Ryan averaged 20.1ppg 14.3 rebounds pg and 3.5 blocked shots- 1510 career points- 4 time 1st team all BPSL and repeat 1st all county player- at 6'7, I am sure we will be hearing about Ryan's future success in college and in basketball.

Paramus Catholic Senior Andre Blackwood and his coach Greg Barnes-

Andre is a 6'1 senior shooting guard who led Paramus Catholic to the Jamboree Title - "The first one" won outright!- according to Bergen County Historians- Andre scored 1,253 career points and average 18.7 ppg this year- 5 rebounds pg, 3 steals pg and led the county with an 89% free throw percentage- making 139 out of 156. Andre always answered the call of his team by making the key shot or steal to stop another teams run evidenced by Paramus Catholic's 22-4 record.

Fort Lee Senior Sandy Burgos and his coach John Ziemba-

I hope you are ready: Sandy Burgos is 9th on the all-time Bergen County scorer with 2121pts- Fort Lee's all time leading scorer- 2x time 1st team all county selection, 3 time all BCSL selection- Record Athlete of the week 2 times, led the North Jersey area in scoring in his sophomore and senior years- and will Join his brother Pedro as the only Fort Lee players to play in the North South all-star game!

Sandy averaged 28ppg- while facing a variety of defenses designed to stop him- triangle and 2 and box and 1. "It was a joy to see him develop and handle the extreme pressure to perform!"- Coach Ziemba.

St Joseph's Kai Dominguez and his coach Mike Doherty-

Quote from coach Doherty: "For the past 3 season Kai has been one of the premier perimeter players in Bergen County. His fearlessness and constant energy led Saint Joseph to back to back league championships, 2 Indian Hills Holiday Festival Titles- 3 consecutive Final Four Jamboree appearances and a varsity record of 62-18 over the past 3 season. Kai was the difference maker for SJ on both ends of the floor. He is a tremendous worker and will continue to do great things on and off the court in years to come"- Coach Doherty

Kai average 14.1ppg 4.2 rbpg 2.5 steals per game and led St Joe's to a 21-4 record. Kai was selected to the All- Jamboree team for the second year in a row.

Kai is one of the few multiple sport athletes to achieve all county recognition in 3 major sports- he is a first team all county football player and a returning 2nd team all county baseball player.  Kai has accepted a full scholarship to play football at the University of Louisville.

Cresskill Senior Tom Hasenstab and his coach Mike Doto

Tom was the number one player in his league and Cresskill's 5'9" point guard-and dynamic leader.  He averaged 12.9ppg 4 rbspg 3 assists pg and 2 steals pg. He lead Cresskill to the Group 1/2 team of the year selection, with a league title- All Groups Holiday Tournament title with a thrilling victory over group 4 Ridgewood and a Group 1 State Sectional title. In the title game, Tom poured in 22points in the victory over Boonton.

Teaneck- Senior Kyle Steinbergen and his coach Curtis March

Kyle is a returning first team all county performer from one of the storied programs in Bergen County. Teaneck shared the NJTCC Division A title with St Joseph. He averaged 14.2 ppg 5 assists pg, 3 steals pg and 4 rbs pg  while covering the opponents best player and also facing defenses to stop him. Kyle has been selected to North-South all star game and plans to attend college and play basketball next year.

"Klye is one of the hardest working players that I have ever coached and I am glad he was able to win a county championship in his junior year!"- Coach March-Catholic
